1<\/p>\n

I don’t believe in omens or fear
\nForebodings. I flee from neither slander
\nNor from poison. Death does not exist.
\nEveryone’s immortal. Everything is too.
\nNo point in fearing death at seventeen,
\nOr seventy. There’s only here and now, and light;
\nNeither death, nor darkness, exists.
\nWe’re all already on the seashore;
\nI’m one of those who’ll be hauling in the nets
\nWhen a shoal of immortality swims by.<\/p>\n

\n2<\/p>\n

If you live in a house – the house will not fall.
\nI’ll summon any of the centuries,
\nThen enter one and build a house in it.
\nThat’s why your children and your wives
\nSit with me at one table, –
\nThe same for ancestor and grandson:
\nThe future is being accomplished now,
\nIf I raise my hand a little,
\nAll five beams of light will stay with you.
\nEach day I used my collar bones
\nFor shoring up the past, as though with timber,
\nI measured time with geodetic chains
\nAnd marched across it, as though it were the Urals.<\/p>\n

\n3<\/p>\n

I tailored the age to fit me.
\nWe walked to the south, raising dust above the steppe;
\nThe tall weeds fumed; the grasshopper danced,
\nTouching its antenna to the horse-shoes – and it prophesied,
\nThreatening me with destruction, like a monk.
\nI strapped my fate to the saddle;
\nAnd even now, in these coming times,
\nI stand up in the stirrups like a child.<\/p>\n

I’m satisfied with deathlessness,
\nFor my blood to flow from age to age.
\nYet for a corner whose warmth I could rely on
\nI’d willingly have given all my life,
\nWhenever her flying needle
